Modern Discoveries of Brazil / About the project

Welcome to the site of the Integrated Research Project entitled Modern Discoveries of Brazil, sponsored by CNPq (Brazilian National Research Council) and associated with the group PRONEX, based at the History Department of PUC-Rio.

You will find here part of the results of research still in progress, work tools constructed by the team, and something of the seas across which the group have travelled.

To map these modern discoveries of Brazil is a task that also involves reflection about one’s self. To identify the uncharted and, at times, tortuous enterprises undertaken by the modern discoverers of Brazil is, in a way, to ask again a question that is also our own, about the sense, beyond individual accomplishment, of intellectual activity, of teaching and of researching, as does one who searches.

To map discoveries is always to find, in contrast to or in affinity with, the sense of what we are and the sense of what we accomplish.
